WHY MEXICO?
The Spanish courses taught by Alaina Brandt focus in particular on Mexican Spanish, since Alaina is an American living and working in Mexico, and Mexico and the United States are such close neighbors. Many of the classes that Alaina teaches end with cool down in which we spend 5-10 minutes discussing some element of Mexican culture. Some of the topics we've covered are introduced on this page.

Geography
From mountains to forests to Carribean playas with ocean views of pristine turquoises and blues, Mexico has a diverse landscape. Here are elements of society and culture related to Mexico's geography.
These are some key points to get you started learning about Mexico's geography:
- Mexico is in North America and its northern border is with the United States.
- Although it's proximity to South America and the equator may make you expect warm climates all around, more mountainous regions of the country are quite rainy and temperate. Then again, desert regions get very hot and dry!
Understanding Mexico's geographic diversity will help you better appreciate regional variations in Spanish vocabulary, customs, and cultural practices you'll encounter in your studies.
