100 Mexicanos VIP: Present Subjunctive Practice
Introduction
Welcome back to 100 Mexicanos VIP! This time, we're tackling one of Spanish's most important (and sometimes challenging) verb moods: the present subjunctive.
The subjunctive appears constantly in everyday Spanish, especially when people give advice, make recommendations, or express what they want others to do. You'll hear it from doctors ("Es importante que duermas bien"), teachers ("Sugiero que estudien más"), and even from terrible bosses making unreasonable demands!
Grammar Focus: In this activity, you'll practice the present subjunctive with:
- Impersonal expressions: Es importante que, Es necesario que, Es mejor que, Es urgente que, Es bueno que, Es malo que
- Verbs of will and influence: recomendar, sugerir, aconsejar, pedir, insistir en, mandar, prohibir, preferir, querer, desear, necesitar, importar
About the answer format: Notice that the survey questions ask "¿Qué les recomendaron/pidieron/sugirieron...?" but the answers start with just "Que..." This is natural in Spanish conversation—once the context is established in the question, you don't need to repeat "Es importante que" or "Recomiendan que" in every answer. The "que" alone signals we're continuing with subjunctive mood.
